English 315 Creative Nonfiction
Read, analyze, and write a number of creative nonfiction forms, including memoir, personal essay, biography, autobiography, letters, editorials, weblogs, and/or opinion essays. Focus on writing process, rhetorical awareness, style, and voice in expressive writing. Appropriate for all majors, but primarily arts and humanities students.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 or equivalent.

Course Objectives:
In this course, students will:
- Analyze range of examples of creative nonfiction subgenres with emphasis on audience, point(s) of view, and purpose
- Produce examples of different creative/narrative nonfiction subgenres
- Develop personal experience and thought into writing that speaks to a larger audience.
- Adapt organization and style to audience, purpose, and subject
- Develop voice, POV, and perspective from which to write and adapt for selected audiences
- Practice working with a discussion group in order to improve critical and writing skills.
- Produce a portfolio of creative nonfiction.
