English 370 Report/Proposal Writing

Analysis of and practice in effective report and proposal writing. Use appropriate rhetorical and technological tools to analyze and produce proposals and reports for diverse professional contexts. Emphasis on appropriate language and editing skills. Appropriate for criminal justice, business, health and sports science, arts and science students, as well as students interested in working for non-profit groups. Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 or equivalent; junior or senior class standing.

Course Objectives:

Students who satisfactorily complete this course will typically be able to:
  • Analyze the various rhetorical strategies writers employ: i.e. analyses of purpose, audience, etc.
  • Write in two important genres found in both the corporate and non-profit worlds: reports and proposals.
  • Use technology, graphics, and visuals to develop their written documents and presentations to enhance messages and clarify meanings.
  • Research information via the library, the Internet, surveys, electronic databases, interviews, etc. for reports and proposals.
  • Perform persuasive oral presentations to accurately relate information, research, and data.
  • Fine-tune their writing (grammar/language), editing, and revising skills.
  • Produce written documents through teamwork and collaboration.
