English 375 Writing for the Web
Analysis and production of textual and visual elements common to the World Wide Web. Emphasis on rhetoric of electronic communication, usability, audience analysis, and integrating text and graphics. Basic web development techniques will be covered, but previous experience is helpful.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 or equivalent. Familiarity with html and/or xhtml and/or style sheets helpful.
Target Student Population
All majors, but particularly:
- English majors
- Marketing and Management majors
- Communication majors
- Computer Science majors
- Education majors
- MIS majors
Course Objectives:
- Learn the difference between web writing and traditional forms of technical or journalistic writing;
- Explore web rhetoric, web audiences, visual rhetoric;
- Learn effective web site design, web structure management, and effective design elements;
- Learn to develop effective web content, including text, menus, graphics, and site maps;
- Gain hands-on experience to broaden writing skillset and prepare students for jobs in web development, technical writing, or technology fields.
