English 379 Rhetoric of Science

Suggested Assignments:

  • Semester-long journal: summaries and responses to weekly New York Times columns (Health, Technology, or Science); review of writing summary and response
  • Identification of three levels of science information and their audiences: general news, substantive news, and scholarly/academic/professional news; Magazines for Libraries as background source for analysis of audience, reach, leanings, influence, reputation
  • Review, identify, and explore library databases for science and technology writing; review and identification of library databases for specific majors
  • Identify and explore particular substantive news sources and or particular trade and professional journals for locating science writing (e.g. Science, Nature, Wired, Discover ; choose two such sources to follow throughout semester
  • Capstone research and writing project
