History Department Policy on Fulfilling Class Obligations
In order to be fair to all students, the Department of History wishes to clarify its policy regarding class obligations:
You are expected to attend all
class meetings, and to take exams and quizzes at the scheduled times. You are
similarly expected to meet all assignment deadlines.
As of August, 1997, all History syllabi will have a clearly stated exam and quiz make-up
policy. Students are expected to
follow it.
Travel plans, air tickets restrictions, work schedules, and social activities do not constitute valid reasons for failing to meet one’s obligations in a History course. Conflicts in schedule connected with other courses or any University activity must be cleared in advance, and with appropriate documentation.
If, for a valid reason, students find that they have to miss a required class, exam, or due date, the instructor must be given at least 24 hours notice. The instructor reserves the right to require verifiable documentation in regard to such cases before a make-up or due date extension is granted.
The instructor can be reached by office
telephone. All History faculty are equipped with voicemail and email so that
you may leave a message at any time. You may also leave a written message at
the History Office, which is located in the Humanities Building, Room 400, and is open
Monday through from 8:30 A. M. until 4:30 P.M.
If an emergency occurs, whereby a 24-hour notice is not possible, instructor has the right to request verifiable documentation confirming that the emergency did occur, and at the time stated. The above stipulations represent the Department’s minimal expectations. Individual instructors may have policies that go beyond these conditions. In such a case, the instructor's policies and requirements take precedence.
