Felix opened the meeting at about 7:50 PM. It was explained that Prof. Verman, the originally scheduled speaker for this meeting, was unable to attend due to a family situation. It is hoped that the Dialogue can reschedule Prof. Verman for a future Dialogue meeting. Ken volunteered to substitute for Prof. Verman with a program of Jewish music.
As the opening prayer, Harry delivered a reading about the Jewish holiday of Shavuot which had been the topic of Prof. Vermans scheduled presentation. Shavuot in ancient times was a celebration of the grain harvest. It is also known as the anniversary of the giving of the law (Torah) on Mount Sinai. Harry concluded the opening prayer with a call for the continuation of dialogue among peoples of different religious persuasions. Such dialogue is the best hope for healing the divisions among peoples.
At this point, Felix introduced Ken, the presenter of the meeting program.
