ACTUALLY, TYPING IS NOT ALLOWED EXCEPT IN EMERGENCIES, "E.G., A TORNADO IS ABOUT TO LIFT THE ROOF OFF MY HOUSE AND EXPLODE MY COMPUTER," OR, "I AM BEING ABDUCTED BY ALIENS AND THEIR DRIPPING BODILY FLUIDS ARE MUCKING UP MY KEYBOARD." TO SEND A TYPED MESSAGE, CLICK ON THE Q&A TAB ON THE TOP TOOL BAR AND TYPE IN THE SPACE PROVIDED OR CLICK ON MY NAME AND TYPE YOUR MESSAGE IN THE BOX THAT APPEARS --- THEN CLICK ON "SEND."

THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO GET TO WEB CONFERENCE

After having downloaded the Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 client:

FOR BEST RESULTS, BEFORE STARTING THE PROGRAM, DISABLE SECURITY FIREWALLS, ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS AND POP-UP BLOCKERS. EVEN WITH THIS PROCEDURE, YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM IF YOU ARE WORKING ON A WIRELESS CONNECTION SINCE THE WIRELESS NETWORK MAY HAVE ITS OWN FIREWALL THAT YOU CANNOT DISCONNECT. FOR THIS REASON, I ALWAYS USE A CABLE CONNECTION WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

AT THE END OF THE WEB CONFERENCE, BE SURE TO REENABLE EVERYTHING THAT YOU DISABLED EARLIER.

1. Go to Start menu.

2.Click on Programs.

3. Click on Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 client. (You have to have downloaded this from the link (above) on your website)

4. Enter the Meeting ID, exactly, that is listed on the course website

(e.g., MBA659-1w). This is found below in the meeting schedule.

5. Ignore the Entry Code box.

6.The Location box should automatically display this address: https://www114.livemeeting.com/cc/udayton

7. If the address is not displayed, then enter the address.

8. Click "Join."

9. Enter your name.

10. Click "Continue."

MEETING ID IS REQUIRED.

The actual Web Conference program will begin about 15-30 minutes before the Web Conference is scheduled to begin.

The actual Web Conference program will begin about 15-30 minutes before the Web Conference is scheduled to begin.

There are icons at the top of the page to indicate the status of your microphone.

You have to click on the microphone and "unmute" it on the tool bar to turn it on so you can speak in the Web Conference. If that does not work, click on the "Voice and Video" tab on the tool bar and click on the microphone icon that comes up there.

The speaker icon should be "unmuted" by default.

For best results for participating in the Web Conference, a headset is desirable.  Be sure to check your microphone/headset before the web conference to be sure it is in working order.

When you wish to speak, go to the color icon on the top, right-hand corner of the tool bar and select the purple color to indicate you wish to speak.

Check your e-mail in case further instructions have been forwarded to you regarding methods for communication in the Web Conference.

WHAT IS A WEB CONFERENCE (AUDIO CHAT ROOM -LIVE SESSION)?

A Web Conference (Audio Chat Room - Live Session) allows students to interact with each other over the computer in real time. To participate in a Web Conference all the participants must be on line at the same time. To participate in the Web Conference check the schedule below for the appropriate date and time.  Then follow the "Guidelines for Participating in the Web Conference (Audio Chat Room - Live Sessions)." Note that the Web Conferences (Audio Chat Rooms - Live Sessions) will be conducted using Microsoft Live Meeting.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE WEB CONFERENCES (AUDIO CHAT ROOMS - LIVE SESSIONS).

1. Students' name will be registered automatically.
2. Comments need not be lengthy but they should be substantive.
3. A substantial contribution is NOT merely logging on to the Web Conference and sitting there. There has to be ACTIVE participation to earn credit for participating in the Web Conference.
4. Even though the Web Conferencs may be password protected, you know how hackers are; anyone might be able to read what you say. This includes someone from Bangladesh, the Vatican, or your parents, or your physician, or your boss, or your sixth grade teacher. Speak honestly but not offensively.

5. You are only required to participate in 3 of the 8 scheduled Web Conferences. I have staggered the Web Conferences on different days so that, with some planning, you will be able to participate in 3 of 8 Chats with a minimum of conflicts.

6. Each Web Conference (Audio Chat Room - Live Session is worth 30 points. There will be no extra credit points for participating in more than 3 Web Conferences. Although you are welcome to participate in more than 3 Web Conferences.

5. Be challenging to everyone in the group --- as well as me!
