CHAT ROOMS
EXCEPT FOR THE SATURDAY CHAT (9:00-10:30 EASTERN TIME)
# 2 SATURDAY, JANUARY 27
- 9:00 a.m. EST # 6: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21 #7: TUESDAY, MARCH 27 |
THESE CHAT ROOMS WILL BE AUDIO. A HEADSET IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CHATS.
We will be using WebEx for the audio Chat Rooms (otherwise known as "Web Conferences").
THIS TOOL ALLOWS US TO USE AUDIO FOR THE CHATS INSTEAD OF REQUIRING US TO TYPE OUR MESSAGES TO EACH OTHER. ACTUALLY, TYPING IS NOT ALLOWED EXCEPT IN EMERGENCIES, "E.G., A TORNADO IS ABOUT TO LIFT THE ROOF OFF MY HOUSE AND EXPLODE MY COMPUTER," OR, "I AM BEING ABDUCTED BY ALIENS AND THEIR DRIPPING BODILY FLUIDS ARE MUCKING UP MY KEYBOARD."
|
Directions for WebEx Participation Enter the WebEx program at https://udayton.webex.com/udayton/meet/ulrich Select the "Meeting" tab. Select the appropriate class session from the list. Click "Join now." Enter your Name, E-mail address and Session Password. Select "OK." An active X or java control will start to install (you may need to give permission) and you will be taken into the event. The program will begin about 5 minutes before the Chat is scheduled to begin. For best results for participating in the Chat Room, a headset is desirable. If you use a headset, you will not need to press the "Ctrl" key. If you use a microphone, you will probably have to press the "Ctrl" key. Be sure to check your microphone/headset before the chat to be sure it is in working order. Check the e-mail that has been forwarded to you regarding methods for communication in the Chat Room. If you wish to speak either click on the "raised hand" icon or click on the "ask for mike" icon. |
A Chat Room (Live Session) allows students to interact with each other
over the computer in real time. To participate in a Chat Room all the participants
must be on line at the same time. To participate in the Chat Rooms check
the schedule below for the appropriate date and time. Then follow
the "Guidelines for Participating in the Chat Rooms (Live Sessions)." Note
that the Chat Rooms (Live Sessions) will be conducted using Elluminate.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE CHAT ROOMS (LIVE SESSIONS).
1. Students' names will be registered automatically.
2. Comments need not be lengthy but they should be substantive.
3. A substantial contribution is NOT merely logging on the the Chat Room and sitting there. There has to be ACTIVE participation to earn credit for participating in the Chat Room.
4. Even though the Chat Rooms may be password protected, you know how hackers are; anyone might be able to hear what you say. This includes someone from Bangladesh, the Vatican, your parents or spouses, your physician, your boss, or your sixth grade teacher. Speak honestly but not offensively
5. You are only required to participate in 3 of the 8 regularly scheduled Chat Rooms; you are welcome to participate in more than 3 but you can earn credit only for 3.
6. Each Chat Room is worth 30 points.
7. Be challenging to everyone in the group --- as well as to me!
