WEB CONFERENCES (AUDIO CHAT ROOMS)
Topics To Be Determined And Will Be Specified In The Table Below |
We will be using Microsoft livemeeting for the Web Conferences.
NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL ONLY WORK ON A PC; IT WILL NOT WORK ON A MAC. LET'S HEAR IT FOR BILL GATES AND MONOPOLY CAPITAL; HE WON THE RACE!
THIS TOOL ALLOWS US TO USE AUDIO FOR THE CHATS INSTEAD OF REQUIRING US TO TYPE OUR MESSAGES TO EACH OTHER. ACTUALLY, TYPING IS NOT ALLOWED EXCEPT IN EMERGENCIES, "E.G., A TORNADO IS ABOUT TO LIFT THE ROOF OFF MY HOUSE AND EXPLODE MY COMPUTER," OR, "I AM BEING ABDUCTED BY ALIENS AND THEIR DRIPPING BODILY FLUIDS ARE MUCKING UP MY KEYBOARD." TO SEND A TYPED MESSAGE, CLICK ON THE Q&A TAB ON THE TOP TOOL BAR AND TYPE IN THE SPACE PROVIDED. OR, CLICK ON MY NAME AND TYPE YOUR MESSAGE IN THE BOX THAT APPEARS --- THEN CLICK ON "SEND."

The actual Web Conference program will begin about 15-30 minutes before the Web Conference is scheduled to begin. There are icons at the top of the page to indicate the status of your microphone. You have to click on the microphone and "unmute" it on the tool bar to turn it on so you can speak in the Web Conference. If that does not work, click on the "Voice and Video" tab on the tool bar and click on the microphone icon that comes up there. The speaker icon should be "unmuted" by default. For best results for participating in the Web Conference, a headset is desirable. Be sure to check your microphone/headset before the web conference to be sure it is in working order. When you wish to speak, go to the color icon on the top, right-hand corner of the tool bar and select the purple color to indicate you wish to speak. Check your e-mail in case further instructions have been forwarded to you regarding methods for communication in the Web Conference.

WHAT IS A WEB CONFERENCE (AUDIO CHAT ROOM)?
A Web Conference (audio Chat Room) allows students to interact with each other
over the computer in real time. To participate in a Web Conference all the participants
must be on line at the same time. To participate in the Web Conferences check
the schedule below for the appropriate date and time. Then follow
the "Guidelines for Participating in the Web Conferences (Audio Chat Rooms)" Note
that the Web Conferences (Audio Chat Rooms) will be conducted using Microsoft
Live Meeting.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE WEB CONFERENCES (AUDIO CHAT ROOMS).
1. Students' names will be registered automatically.
2. Comments need not be lengthy but they should be substantive.
3. A substantial contribution is NOT merely logging on the Web Conference and sitting there. There has to be ACTIVE participation to earn credit for participating in the Web Conference.
4. Even though the Web Conferences may be password protected, you know how hackers are; anyone might be able to hear what you say. This includes someone from Bangladesh, the Vatican, your parents or spouses, your physician, your boss, or your sixth grade teacher. Speak honestly but not offensively
5. You are only required to participate in 5 of the 10 regularly scheduled Web Conferences; you are welcome to participate in more than 5 but you can earn credit only for 5.
6. Each Web Conference is worth 30 points.
7. Be challenging to everyone in the group --- as well as to me!
