OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this course students will be able to:

(1)   Explain the ethical systems and principles that are dominant in addressing business practices.

(2)   Apply the ethical systems and principles to contemporary business practices.

(3) Develop the skill for formulating ethical principles for successful leadership.

(4) Identify the values and virtues necessary for sound leadership.

(5) Articulate the values that underlie leadership virtues.(6) Reflect on one's personal and professional virtues and evaluate them.

(7)   Develop a hierarchy of the essential qualities of leadership that are necessary to guide business decisions.

(8)   Identify the ethical shortcomings of leaders who are making defective decisions in business practices and develop a sound ethical approach to those situations..

(9)   Explain the manner in which the theories of leadership explain the structure of leadership practices.

(10)   Develop a catalog of the essential qualities demanded of leaders in the business community.

(11)   Develop a hierarchy of the essential qualities of leadership that are necessary to guide business decisions.

(12) Recognize examples of the exercise of leadership by recognized leaders.

(13)   Apply the desirable qualities of leadership to current situations in business practices.

(14)   Distinguish between leadership as a matter of being a “servant” of a corporation and its employees and leadership as being simply an exercise of power.

(15) Develop strategies for effective leadership.

(16) Develop leadership practices that promote teamwork as a response to contemporary corporate concerns.

(17) Develop the technological skills to exercise leadership “at a distance” without losing the personal dimensions of leadership.

(18) Gain insight into the importance of self-development, and strategies for doing so, in order to be an effective leader.
