PHL 316: Engineering Ethics
Winter Term, 2004
Texts:
The following three books are required for the course. It is important that you purchase these books, as we will be using them regularly during class. It will usually be helpful to bring the day's assigned reading with you when you come to class.
Michael E. Gorman, et al., eds., Ethical and Environmental Challenges to Engineering, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey: Prentice Hall, 2000 (paperback).
James Rachels, The Elements of Moral Philosophy, fourth edition, New York: McGraw-Hill, 2003 (paperback).
Caroline Whitbeck, Ethics in Engineering Practice and Research, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1998 (paperback).
There will also be seven articles assigned on electronic reserve. We will not begin using these until mid-February. To access these articles, go the Roesch Library's e-reserve site (click here). Locate our course materials either through "PHL 316" on the list of courses or through "Benson" on the list of faculty. The password for our course is: *****. E-reserve materials appear as PDF files which can be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
There will also be a few reading assignments from materials available on-line.
