QRC MOD 1, the Algebra Competency.

ALL students must pass an on-line 10 question multiple choice exam.  Pass means 8, 9, or 10 correct.

ALL students have had the opportunity to pass the exam in VO.  The student comes to campus and the student has either passed (P) or not passed (NP).

(P):  Done.  That student will be sent an e-mail letter of congratulations and explanation.  That student will receive EM credit for QRC MOD 1 and it is recorded in Colleague.(9b in a BS report).

(NP)  Must pass the on-line exam in SC 311.  Tutorial available at webct.udayton.edu.  Tutors available in SC 311.  The student will receive an e-mail letter complete with explanation.

I hope to copy advisors on each of these letters.

Students, who are originally classified as (NP) may claim to have passed the on-line exam in SC 311 and the record does not show on Colleague.

That student may be correct.  Scores are recorded in Colleague by hand.  There is a time lag.  There could be human error but none has yet been discovered.  Unfortunately, Vicki Withrow at Vicki.Withrow@notes.udayton.edu and I are the only contact points.

That student may be incorrect.  SC 311 is the only place (outside of Bangalore) that you can take the exam. Unfortunately, Vicki Withrow at Vicki.Withrow@notes.udayton.edu and I are the only contact points.

QRC MOD 2, the Statistics Competency

For most of us, this is easier to implement.  Students satisfy this competency by successful completion (C- or better) of

MTH 114, MTH 149, MTH 205, MTH 207, CHM 201, PSY 216, POL 207, SOC 308, DSC 210, CEE 320, CME 281, ECE 340, MEE 314, Stats AP 5.

MTH, Physics, CPS are expected to take an on-line exam.  There are assorted others (humanities majors who take calculus, life science who take 137-138, etc) who will want to take the on-line exam.

Students who receive a D in one of the courses listed above have not satisfied the QRC Mod 2 requirement.  Those students can retake that course or take another appropriate course and earn a C- or better to satisfy the QRC Mod 2 requirement.  OR students can pass the on-line exam.  If a student wants to take the on-line exam, the student must first be enrolled in a particular WebCt course.  Please contact Paul Eloe at Paul.Eloe@notes.udayton.edu to request to be enrolled.

AN ADVISING NOTE:

FOR WINTER TERM ADVISING, MTH 128 is usually not the appropriate mathematics course.  If that student only takes one 3 credit hour course, and that course is MTH 128, that student will not satisfy the statistics module.  If that student is going to SBA, fine (that student will take DSC 210).  If that student never makes that move to SBA, then that student will probably take a second mathematics course just to satisfy QRC Mod 2.

QRC MOD 3, the Modeling Competency

A student must earn a C- or better in one of the following mathematics courses:  114, 116, 128, 129, 137, 138, 148, 149, 168, 169, 204, 205, 214.

There is no alternative for a student if that student earns a D in one of those courses.  The student will either retake that course or take a second appropriate course and earn a C- or better.
