Welcome to the homepage of Prof. Qiwen Zhan!

Dr. Qiwen Zhan is a professor in the Electro-Optics Program (EOP) and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) of the University of Dayton. He runs a vigorous research program and mentors graduate and undergraduate students on various research projects. Prof. Zhan teaches courses in both EOP and ECE.   9. October 2011, Prof. Zhan dilivered an invited talk "Plasmotics with Spatially Engineered Polorization" at the Special Symposium - Plasmonics in Detectors and Solar Cells of IEEE Photonics Society Annual Meeting in Arlington, VA.

  10. October 2011, "Experimental confirmation of strong fluorescence enhancement using one-dimensional GaP/SiO2 photonic band gap structure" co-authored by Jian Gao, Andrew Sarangan and Prof. Zhan is published in Optics Materials Express. Congratulations, Jian!

  11. May 2011, Mr. Zhi Wu successfully defended his doctoral dissertation work on "Design fabrication and characterization of subwavelength metallic structures." Zhi will join KLA Tencor at the Silicon Valley after graduation.Congratulations, Dr. Wu!

  12. April 2011, Prof. Zhan received the Noland Award for Distinguished Faculty Research from the UD Chapter of Sigma Xi. Sigma Xi is the Scientific Research Society with more than 60000 scientists and engineering elected members.

  13. April 2011, Focal field engineering works in Prof. Zhan's group is featured in a SPIE Newsroom Article: "Engineering focal field properties in optical microscopy." Prof. Jiming Wang and Dr. Weibin Chen are the main contributors to this work.

  20. January 2011, Dr. Weibin Chen presented his work in Prof. Zhan's group as an invited speaker at the SPIE Photonics West Conference. The title of the talk is "Design and construction of an electro-optics rf metamaterial array."
