Accessing Your Account @ Home

Note: To access your account from home, your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer) needs to be set for an active FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connection.

To check if Internet Explorer is set for an active FTP connection:
  1. Click on the Tools menu.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Connections tab.
  4. Scroll through the window on that tab to locate the Browsing category.
  5. Within that category there is a selection Use Passive FTP.
  6. Be sure the checkbox in front of that selection is NOT checked.
You only need to perform the above procedure once, rather than every time you desire to access your account.

Now, to access your account:
  1. From your web browser, go to ftp://cpsuser3.cps.udayton.edu (note: use ftp://, not http://)
  2. Enter your userID (e.g., cps444-01.05 or cps544-n1.01) and password when prompted.
  3. Double-click on the folder for this course (cps444 or cps544) followed by that for our section (sectionn1).
  4. Double-click on the folder corresponding to your individual account.
  5. Drag-and-drop to copy folders or files from your account to your home computer and vice versa.
Note: The GA and I have read-only access to your CPS accounts.
