1. (50 points) Read the article on web mining distributed in class and write a one page (11pt Times font, single-spaced, 1" margins) summary and critique of it. Your write-up must demonstrate to us that you understand the concept of a web FD enough to be able write a program to mine them (which you will do in project 2). In addition, make some interesting observations. For example, can you describe any other potential applications of web FDs?

   Browse through the DBLP computer science bibliography website. Suggest possible reasons why the designer(s) did not use a DBMS to implement this facility (for more info, read the FAQ). After all, the site involves data management and retrieval. So why not use a powerful transaction processing facility? Highest points will be awarded to the most insightful solution.
