Handouts: Jim Dunne distributed a draft of the background and rationale to accompany the proposed revision of the administration section of the General Education Policy Document. A draft of the revision had been distributed via email prior to the meeting.

Oversight
Jim
Dunne noted that a discussion of the status of the proposal to revise the
Quantitative Reasoning Competency would take place at the April 17 meeting of
the APC.
Linda
Hartley reported that the Calendar Committee, of which she is a member, had met and developed various scenarios for the 2003/2004
academic year.
Pat
Palermo noted that the structure of the orientation process would soon be
undergoing a periodic review.
It
was noted that the APC has oversight on the process of consultation across
divisions when there is a proposed curriculum change. The status of the current
consultation process will be discussed at the April 17 meeting of the APC.
Pat
Palermo noted that the language in the bulletin related to residence
requirements needs to be clarified and updated to properly take into
consideration programs such as the study abroad program and distance learning
programs.
Pat
Palermo noted that the implementation of the new +/- grading scale is scheduled
for Fall 2002 and a reminder should be sent to faculty
members.
3. Revisions
to the General Education Policy Document
Dave Biers reported that the GE
2002 Subcommittee tasked with a review of the Rationale and Goals portion of
the General Education Policy document had appointed subcommittees to read
various university policy documents and to suggest wording changes that would
be consistent with these documents. The subcommittee members are reporting

The APC voted to approve the proposed revisions, authored by Pat Johnson, Pat Palermo, and Jim Dunne, to the Administrative-Responsibility section (section V) of the General Education Policy document. It was noted that the vote was provisional since the proposal would also be brought before the Provost’s Council for approval. Jim Dunne distributed specific wording for the background and rationale for the proposal for the APC members to review and critique. The APC members agreed that, should the Provost’s Council approve the revisions, the proposal would be brought before the full Academic Senate at the April 19th meeting.
