* The University of Dayton is part of the LEADER Consortium (with Wright State University, Central State University and the Air Force Institute of Technology). It was supported initially by an institutional transformation grant from the NSF ADVANCE program whose aim is to increase the participation and advancement of women in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). One of LEADER’s efforts centers on Equity Advisors, who work on developing institutional policies that affect the workplace, achieve diversity in faculty recruitment, and improve the retention and advancement of women STEM faculty.
I have been an Equity Advisor for the College of Arts and
Sciences at UD since 2009. In this role, I give workshops on unconscious
bias to a variety of audiences, organize networking events for women faculty
and work (confidentially) with individual faculty on a number of equity
issues related to teaching, research, promotion and tenure, and work/life
