University of Dayton Chapter
American Association of University Professors
Jan 15, 2009
Roesch Library 601, 2:00 p.m. 2009 Third Meeting, 2008-2009
Presiding: President Joseph Watras
Chapter treasurer, Professor Friel, made his report about the new tax status for the chapter. President Watras is keeping for the chapter the records of Professor Friel. The chapter members extended their gratitude to Professor Friel for submitting the required documents.
Professor Friel announced that an anonymous donor gave the chapter a gift of one hundred dollars. The members expressed their thanks for this generous action.
Minutes of the Nov. 6, 2008 meeting were approved.
Motion was made and approved to give Professor Buckley the authority to purchase appropriate books on the topic of Academic Freedom. These books would join the Roesch Library’s collection honoring Dr. Beauregard. Professor Buckley produced a list of possible purchases.
When the discussion turned to the Roesch Library, the members noted that they looked forward to the renovation of the library. They added that the library is essential to maintain faculty productivity.
Although the chapter members did not make any firm decisions about a wine and cheese social for the Spring Semester, the members agreed to begin making plans for such an event.
Although the members of the AAUP chapter recognize that the University may face budget difficulties, the members wanted to ask administrators to remember the importance of faculty travel budgets. If faculty members are to maintain scholarly productivity, they have to be able to travel to conferences of professional associations to present the results of their research.
The next meeting will be held on 12 February 2009 at 3:00pm in Roesch Library room 602.
Adjournment at 2:40 p.m.
David M. Buckley
