Home 2013 Clinical Partnership Slots Request Form APTA Clinical Site Information Form |
January 18, 2012 Welcome to the University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy Clinical Education website! As we've had recent changes in the UD DPT clinical education team, I introduce to you its members:
While I will serve as your primary point of contact for all things clinical education, please feel free to contact Trista as well. Jim, who is now enjoying full-time clinical practice, serves as our communication safety net - please feel free to contact him as needed. As we learn and grow as a team, we will further delineate our primary clinical education roles. In the meantime, please let us know how we can better serve you as our partners in our primary passion of clinically educating future physical therapists. Many thanks,
February 26, 2011 This is just a quick post to let you know that we've updated the APTA CPI Web Resources page with a video to help with the registration process on the APTA Web site for the PT CPI tutorial. Let Sean or me know if you have any questions. Thanks,

Jim February 8, 2010 Update to Clinical Faculty Rights And Privileges: We are pleased to announce that we have updated our clinical faculty rights and privileges. Jim Cropper, PT, DPT, MS Clinical Faculty Rights And Privileges Clinical faculty members (center coordinators of clinical education and clinical instructors) of the University of Dayton’s Doctor of physical therapy program have the following rights and privileges associated with their participation in the DPT clinical education program:
June 8, 2009 How should students sign in Ohio? This is a question that is coming up frequently as there has been a change, or at least a clarification, just this last year, and was added to the Laws and Rules effective May 1, 2009. I have not updated our Clinical Educator's Handbook with this information yet, so I'm posting it here for now. In Ohio, a student may sign notes one of three ways:
I hope this clarifies things. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Best regards,
Jim Cropper, PT, DPT, MS January 30, 2009 The APTA CPI tutorial was moved to a new server and it has a new look and feel. In order to take the tutorial, you have to go through the process of "purchasing" a course. It is free but it goes through a shopping cart. Navigating through the sign-up process is a little confusing, so I put together a PowerPoint slide show with screen shots of each step of the process. To get to my step-by-step tutorial on getting the tutorial go to http://academic.udayton.edu/acce/getmycpi.html. Please feel free to call or e-mail with questions. Good luck,
Jim Cropper, PT, DPT, MS January 3, 2009 Beginning on January 5, 2009 with our neuro rotation, we are moving to the new Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI) which is an online tool. This version of the CPI is much better than the one it replaces. Grading makes much more sense and is very objective. The transition requires some considerable initial setup and then some ongoing maintenance. In order for anybody (ACCE, CCCE, CI, or student) to be setup in the system, they must take the APTA's online tutorial and pass a quiz (which APTA refers to as a "Post Assessment") with a score of 70%. Fortunately this only has to be done one time for all schools. Once it is complete, you never have to take it again. You need to know that you will be asked for an e-mail address when you take the tutorial. This address will become your username in the system. You may use any e-mail address you wish. APTA sends your username to Academic Management Systems (AMS) on whose servers the CPI lives. Whichever ACCE sets you up for the first time in the system will send you your login information including a default password which you can change. As is the case with anything new, there are a few growing pains as we make the transition. They have so far been minor however and we'll patiently work through them. To log into the APTA's tutorial click here. The password for the tutorial is ptcpiweb08 Please feel free to call or e-mail with any questions.
Jim Cropper, PT, DPT, MS July 15, 2008 Effective Summer of 2008, I will no longer make routine midterm site visits or phone calls. These are the factors that came into play in making this decision:
Given these factors, it wasn't the best use of resources to make these visits. To assure that I am monitoring and evaluating our sites (required for accreditation) I will do the following:
The Clinical Educator's Handbook and the Student Clinical Education Handbook need to be updated and I will do that this Summer/Fall. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns about this decision. And, as always, I am deeply grateful to you all for your work with our students. THANK YOU!
Jim Cropper, PT, DPT
