It has been brought to our attention that the airline schedules do not necessarily synchronize with the arrival and departure times for the pre and post conference tours.  For instance, Egyptair does not have a flight from the US to Cairo, leaving on the 17th and arriving the 18th, which is when the pre-conference option begins.  In addition, the return to Cairo from the Nile cruise on March 28 would not bring participants to Cairo in time for that day's Egyptair flight to New York.  We have contacted our Star of Egypt agent, and following are the possible solutions  that she has arranged for us:

 

RATES AT THE HILTON AND SHEPHEARD IN CAIRO FOR PEOPLE ARRIVING  EARLY FOR THE PRE-CONFERENCE OPTION AND REQUIRING AN EXTRA NIGHT:

Hilton:    Per person in Single US$ 80

                Per person sharing in a double US$ 55

 

Shepheard: Per person in Single US$ 60

                    Per person sharing in a double US$ 45

EVENING OPTION:

Nile cruise dinner (including, dinner, show and two way transfer from to hotel and all taxes, no beverages included).  US$ 25 per person.

 

Individuals arriving in groups of fewer than ten people will be charged an extra $10 per person for airport pick-up.

 

RATES FOR ONE OR TWO DAYS IN CAIRO AFTER CONFERENCE:

 

Intercontinental:  Per person in Single US$ 80

                              Per person sharing in a double US$ 55

 

Hilton:     Per person in Single US$ 80

RECOMMENDED FLYING SCHEDULES AFTER THE POST-CONFERENCE TOUR TO UPPER EGYPT (March 24-28):

(A )  IF BOOKED ON EGYPTAIR

Two alternatives:

1--  Follow program and checkout on Friday, the 28th, as per original schedule

Take the flight leaving Aswan at 17:05 (5:05 p.m.)., arriving Cairo 18:30 (6:30 p.m.) on the 28th; taking transfer from domestic to international terminal ($10 per person) to take Egyptair flight  983 departing for New York at 01:30 (29th in the morning).  This gives people 5 hours between flights, but no need for a hotel.

2--  Check out from the Nile cruise on Thursday, the 27th March**

Take flight to Cairo, leaving Aswan at 21:50 (9:50 p.m.), arriving Cairo 00:15 (fifteen minutes after midnight) which is March 28, and stay at Novotel Airport Hotel:  RATE PER PERSON IN DOUBLE ROOM US$ 35, IN SINGLE ROOM US$ 50.  Transport to airport in the morning $10 per person.

**Star of Egypt will adjust program in Aswan so that the Philae Temple visit will be scheduled on the 27th instead of the 28th, so those who depart on the 27 from Upper Egypt will only miss the High Dam visit.

(B) IF BOOKED ON LUFTHANSA

Two alternatives:

1--  Follow program and checkout on Friday, the 28th, as per original schedule 

Take domestic flight leaving Aswan 10:30 a.m., arriving Cairo at 12:35 p.m. to take Lufthansa flight for Munich at 15:00 (3 p.m.) and onward to final destination.

2-- Check out from the Nile cruise on Thursday, the 27th March

Take flight to Cairo, leaving Aswan at 21:50 (9:50 p.m.), arriving Cairo 00:15 (fifteen minutes after midnight) which is March 28, connecting with Lufthansa flight 591 (leaving Cairo at dawn--3:00 a.m. on the 28th) with 2:30 hours in the airport ; or flight 593 (leaving at 5:00 a.m. on the 28th) with 4:30 hours in the airport.
