Currently, I am researching various topics such as, the CSI Effect, police and Criminal Justice Studies Major interpretation of police based television, and what drawls students to become CJS majors. I am working with Dr. Art Jipson and Dr. Paul Becker on a research project that examines the attitudes and perceptions of criminal justice majors in the Midwestern metropolitan area (Dayton, Ohio) on the representation of policing professionals in television. Part of our research has included distributing questionnaires to criminal justice studies students and non criminal justice students to determine their perceptions of realism of officers, presence of prejudicial officer stereotypes, enjoyment and dislike of police based presentation and accuracy of portrayals. Overall a paper will be presented at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in March 2008.
