PSY 321: Cognitive Processes
Serial Position Effect
Do the following steps to complete this assignment:
For 2/8:
Review pages 150 to 152 of the text. Become familiar
with the terms serial position effect, primacy effect, and
recency effect.
Make sure that you have a current web browser. The
experiment has been tested with Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 2.0 on
Windows XP and Internet Explorer 5.2 and Firefox 1.0.6 on the Mac
OS X. Make sure that Java is enabled in your browser.
By midnight 2/11:
Read the information about the details of the experiment on the Start page.
Do the experiment. It should take less than 15 minutes to complete.
Submit your results to the web server no later than midnight
on February 8. Your data will be
displayed along with everyone else's data.
By midnight 2/13:
Follow the instructions in the Suggested Data Analysis section
of the
page that is displayed when you submit your results.
By start of class 2/15:
Start writing the APA style paper which is to be a four page report of the experiment. The first page is to be the title page. Pages two and three will consist of a brief (no more than two-thirds of a page each) review of relevant literature and discussion of the hypotheses that are being tested in the study, followed by an abbreviated methods section, a short description of the results, and a discussion of those results. The final page is to be an APA style reference section.
