Hi! Thanks for visiting our Alumni Exchange page, but guess what?? We decided that it would be easier if for you to chat with each other on Facebook. So, please tell your friends your news, questions, job and career related information at: University of Dayton - International Studies - Facebook Group
Now, 'what is an alumni exchange' you might ask. Well, never fear - we would not exchange our alumni for anyone! This page is for posting information regarding your personal triumphs and travels. It is also a forum for any internship or employment opportunities you have encountered at your current place of employment or heard of 'through the grapevine' which would be of interest to our current students or other alumni like yourself. If we hear from many of you, we will create sub-pages, but right now, consider this page your connection to all University of Dayton International Studies and Human Rights students. Just email braley@notes.udayton.edu with your name, graduation year, email address and message. At some time in the near future we will have the ability to add this information with just a 'submit' button, but for right now, your patience is appreciated while we catch up with the technology. Thank you. |

From Emily Nohner:
Well, I got a chance to meet a real political rockstar in my book. Former Ambassador Joe Wilson, also known as the husband to Valerie Plame, was representing Hillary Clinton at the Iowa Hunger Summit Political Forum hosted by the ONE campaign and The Alliance to End Hunger :) Nerdy me raced to get a quick pic, as my friend yelled to Mr. Wilson, "Hey, I've got a groupie here who wants a pic with you!" Thanks Mike. But he was more than happy to take a photo and share some words of inspiration regarding the future of the U.S. and the need for folks interested in Human Rights. The link below is his article published in the NYTimes: http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0706-02.htm |

From Tatiana Irby: It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Christina Winkfield's sister, Morgan Brittany, on 10 September 2007. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070910/NEWS0104/709100376 |

From Katie Leisner: Yes, the position I posted previously was just filled. We found a U of I grad... But at least we have a few Flyers on my floor (Eileen Meyer formerly Eileen Hoenigman, graduated from the English program and she works on high level correspondence). I will be sure to let you know if anything else comes up in my area. In the mean time our career site is http://careers.rotary.org All the best, Katie |

From Andrea Smith-Rippeon ("Andrea Smith-Rippeon" <AndreaSmithRippeon@gmail.com>) from email dated August 19th: Dear Friends and Family, As you may know, I left this past Thursday for China. I plan to stick around Asia until about the end of May. For the most part I will be spending my time trying to memorize Chinese characters and master standard Mandarin tones. If you've had to suffer through my singing or trumpet/french horn playing in the past, you probably can imagine how difficult it is for me to get tones correct. To this end, I have enrolled at Yunnan Normal University in Kunming, China (southwest) and for at least the first few weeks I will be staying in the international student dorms there. Rather than go on here, I'd like to introduce or remind you of the blog I created last fall to document my experience studying abroad. In an effort to keep in touch but not bore everyone with unwanted details, I created an account on livejournal . Currently, I am hoping to update the site at least once a week, though this depends largely on what I am up to. The upshot of not being with a study abroad program this time around is that my time will be more my own, the downside is that I probably will lead a fairly monotonous existence. Anyway, if you are interested in checking in from time to time, feel free to leave comments on the blog. For those of you who aren't so tech savvy or would just prefer a "hey, I'm doing well," I will send out a mass email every few months and you are welcome to email me too. Please let me know if this link doesn't work. http://einchina.livejournal.com/ You may need to adjust the text size on your browser to large. Regards, Andrea P.S. Feel free to pass this on to anyone I may have missed. P.P.S If you happen to be on the other side of the world at any point in the next year, I'd be happy to take you hiking around Yunnan, introduce you to some minorities, and I'll even give you some pointers on the most effective way to carry dvd's. P.P.S. My new entry may not be up for 4 more days because I am currently horse back riding in Sichuan. I'll definitely update by the end of the week.
From email dated August 23rd:
Hello Again, You may have noticed that I have not updated my livejournal...this would be because everywhere I have been thus far my livejournal has been blocked. I am hoping when I get to Kunming this will change since it wasn't a problem last fall. Despite my internet frustrations, I am doing pretty well. I really enjoyed horseback riding for three days though I got altitude sickness (fever, couldn't keep food down, dehydration, whole shebang) and a wicked sunburn (mom I did wear sunscreen). It just made the ride back to town more interesting. My stomach still isn't quite right and I have fever blisters, but other than that I am well. We rode to snow ice mountain......very high (can't remember the measurement, but I am shocked that horses could carry people up a mountain that steep). I am excited to be leaving the humidity of Chengdu this afternoon to head to Kunming. There I will stay for at least a month, so that should be good. I got to see my friend and her beautiful (American/Tibetan) baby son last week, which was a real treat. Anyway, wishing you all well and hoping I can update through my blog from here on out.

From Emily Nohner ("Emily Nohner" <emily.nohner@gmail.com>) dated August 8th Greetings all! Sorry about the mass email, but there has been much interest in the outcome of the swim! It was an incredible weekend, and I feel like I'm finally getting back into the groove of being on land ;) I still haven't processed it all--but I can say that I'm completely overwhelmed by all of the help it took to make the swim happen: I owe a tremendous thanks to DynsoSwim for training me--especially Coach Dean and all of the swimmers who helped me in Florida!!, my roomates and friends at UD who encouraged me since day one, all of the folks who donated money &/or bought a shirt, my folks for helping foot the bill for some travel costs and hosting the crowd at the lake, the boat crew who hung in there the entire 6 hours and did a perfect job keeping us safe, my family & friends who traveled to be there with me at the lake, all of the PR folks- Jeff and Al!, my gracious boss and colleagues at The Alliance who were forgiving with my training schedule-- I can't thank everyone enough. Here is the best description of the event thus far. The links are great. So far we have approx. $2800! Incredible. http://www.sctimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007108050029 http://www.swim4cp.nohner.com/ I will be writing some thank yous later, but while I am at it I should say that I am staying in DC longer than I had originally planned. I will be living at an apartment across the street from where Im at now from Aug. 12-Aug 31. Sept. 1 I move into The Meridian Apartments with a UD alumni, Mark Peterson, and his colleague at FEMA. I am really looking forward to it, the place looks like the Trump Towers. Plus- I will finally feel a bit more settled :) huge sigh of relief!! So please, stay in touch, know I love you and appreciate you all :) em
