Metro Dayton Hikers
Aug, 2014 thru Dec, 2014
All hikes start promptly at 1:30 PM unless otherwise noted, each month, on the first, third and fifth (if it exists) Sunday. The pace is BRISK: hikes may not be suitable for children or other slow walkers. Also, due to the restrictions at many of the hiking locations, members are asked not to bring pets.
DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY CODES:
“A” = EASY, NO HILLS
“B” = MODERATE, SOME HILLS
“C” = DIFFICULT, VERY HILLY IN SPOTS
“D” = RUGGED, FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY
03 Aug 2014 – Englewood MetroPark (WEST). 5-6 miles, 2 ½ hours “B”. Take SR 48 (North Main Street) north past I70 to 100 E. National Road (US 40). The park entrance is at the intersection of US 40 and SR 48 at the traffic light. Meet in the parking lot at the end of the (long) driveway.

17 Aug 2014 – Carriage Hill MetroPark. 5 miles, 2 hours “A”. Take Ohio Rt 201 (Brandt Pike) north from Dayton past I70. Turn right at 7891 East Shull Road into the Metropark. Meet at the Cedar LAKE shelter parking lot left (north) off East Shull Road.
31 Aug 2014 – Indian Mound Reserve. 4-5 miles, 2 ½ hours “C”. Address: 2750 U.S. Rt. 42 East, Cedarville, Ohio; Williamson Lane. Go east out of Xenia on US-42 to second park entrance on left (west) side of road, by a historic row of pine trees. Meet in parking lot.
07 Sep 2014 – Twin Creek MetroPark. 7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 about a mile south of Germantown to Eby Road. Turn left onto Eby Road. Use entrance at 9688 Eby Road. Meet in parking lot.
21 Sep 2014 – Possum Creek Metropark. 5 miles, 2 hours “A”. From Dayton, proceed south along SR-4 (Germantown Road) to Frytown Road. Turn left (east). Proceed to park entrance at 4790 Frytown Road. Meet in the Argonne Forest parking lot (PC-3).
05 Oct 2014 – Brukner Nature Center. 5 miles, 2 hours “B”. Address: 5995 Horseshoe Bend Road, Troy, Ohio 45373. From I-75, take exit #73 and go west on SR 55 for 2.4 miles; take Horseshoe Bend Rd. to the right and proceed for another 2.1 miles to the entrance which is on the right.
19 Oct 2014 – Caesar Creek State Park. *****(Start at 10:00 A.M.) *****
14 miles, 4-5 hours “B”. Take 75 or 48 or 42 north or south to SR73. Proceed east over the (long) bridge at Caesar Creek Lake. The first street on the right, after the bridge, will take you to the parking lot at the 50 Springs picnic area. Park in the first parking lot on the left at the restrooms. Bring a small lunch to carry in a pack.
02 Nov 2014 – Taylorsville MetroPark (EAST). 5 miles, 2 hours “B”. Take I-75 north from Dayton past I-70. Exit I75 at US40 (exit 63). Travel east on US40 to dam. Note that US40 turns right (south) onto Brown School Road, and then turns left (east) again toward the dam. Cross the dam. Use entrance 2101 US40 on the EAST side of the dam. This entrance is several hundred yards past the dam on the left (north) side of US40. Meet in the parking lot.
16 Nov 2014 – Germantown MetroPark. 7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 (Germantown Road) south from Dayton. Proceed to Manning Road. Turn right (west) onto Manning Road. Proceed a couple of miles to Boomershine Road. Turn left onto Boomershine Road. Meet at the Germantown Nature Center at 6910 Boomershine Road.
30 Nov 2014 – Bill Yeck Park. 4-5 miles, 2 hours “C”. Outside Centerville. Proceed south on Wilmington Pike from Centerville Station Road (Franklin or Ohio Rt 725). Meet in the parking lot on west (right) side of road (7893 Wilmington-Dayton Rd.), just before the curve to Conference Road and Sugarcreek MetroPark.
07 Dec 2014 – Charleston Falls Preserve. 4 miles, 1 ½ hours “B”. 2535 Ross Road. Go north on SR202 (Old Troy Pike) about a mile past US 40 to Ross Road. Turn left (west) onto Ross Road and proceed about a half mile to park entrance. Meet in the main parking lot.
21 Dec 2014 – Eastwood MetroPark. 4-5 miles, 2 hours “A”. Use the entrance at 1385 Harshman Road at the traffic light (just north of the Air Force Museum). Meet at the last parking lot.
