HIKE SCHEDULE

Feb, 2012 thru Sep, 2012

All hikes start promptly at 1:30 PM unless otherwise noted, each month, on the first, third and fifth (if it exists) Sunday. The pace is BRISK: hikes may not be suitable for children or other slow walkers. Also, due to the restrictions at many of the hiking locations, members are asked not to bring pets.

DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY CODES:

“A” = EASY, NO HILLS

“B” = MODERATE, SOME HILLS

“C” = DIFFICULT, VERY HILLY IN SPOTS

“D” = RUGGED, FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY

February 

19 Feb 2012 –  Englewood MetroPark.   5 miles, 2 ½ hours “C”. Use entrance at 4361 US40 (east end of dam). Meet at Patty Shelter parking lot.

04 Mar 2012 –  Sugarcreek MetroPark.  5 miles, 2 ½ hours “C”.  From I 675, follow Wilmington Pike south past SR725.  Continue less than a mile past SR725 to the intersection of Conference Road with Wilmington Pike. Turn left onto Conference Road. Meet in the parking lot at 4178 Conference Road.

18 Mar 2012 – Twin Creek MetroPark.  7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 about a mile south of Germantown to Eby Road. Turn left onto Eby Road. Use entrance at 9688 Eby Road. Meet in parking lot.

01 Apr 2012 – Eastwood MetroPark. 4-5 miles, 2 hours “A”. Use the entrance at 1385 Harshman Road at the traffic light (just north of the Air Force Museum). Meet at the last parking lot.

15 Apr 2012 – Germantown MetroPark. 7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 (Germantown Road) south from Dayton. Proceed to Manning Road. Turn right (west) onto Manning Road. Proceed a couple of miles to Boomershine Road. Turn left onto Boomershine Road. Meet at the Germantown Nature Center at 6910 Boomershine Road.

29 Apr 2012 – Bill Yeck Park. 4-5 miles, 2 hours “C”. Outside Centerville. Proceed south on Wilmington Pike from Centerville Station Road (Franklin or Ohio Rt 725). Meet in the parking lot on west (right) side of road (7893 Wilmington-Dayton Rd.), just before the curve to Conference Road and Sugarcreek MetroPark.

06 May 2012 – Hills and Dales MetroPark – 5 miles, 2 hours “A”. Meet at the White Oak Camp, 2606 Hilton Drive, Kettering, Ohio. Traveling north on South Dixie from Dorothy Lane, turn right (east) at Glenbeck Avenue. Glenbeck deadends in 2 blocks on Hilton Drive at the White Oak Camp parking lot.

20 May 2012 – Twin Valley Trail. *****(Start at 10:00 A.M.)*****

14 miles, 4 Hours “D”. We will meet at the Germantown MetroPark sledding hill parking lot located at 6206 Boomershine Road (north of the Nature Center and just south of Manning Road) and hike along the backpacking trail between Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks. Bring a small lunch to carry in a pack.

3 Jun 2012 – The Narrows 4-5 miles, 2 hours “C”. From US-35 just west of Xenia, go south on Factory Road to Indian Ripple Road. Entrance is opposite Factory Road. Meet in the parking lot.

17 Jun 2012 – John Bryan/Clifton Gorge 5-6 miles, 3 hours “D”. From the north edge of Yellow Springs, go east on SR343, then south on SR370 to John Bryan State Park. Meet in the first parking lot (on the right) just beyond the park office.

01 July 2012 – Grant Park.  4-5 miles, 2 hours  “C”.  Meet at Normandy Elementary School parking lot at 401 Normandy Ridge Road. Normandy Ridge Road is west of Paragon Road at the I-675 overpass, which is just south of Alex Bell Pike.

15 July 2012 – Possum Creek Metropark.  5 miles, 2 hours  “A”. From Dayton, proceed south along SR-4 (Germantown Road) to Frytown Road. Turn left (east). Proceed to park entrance at 4790 Frytown Road. Meet in the Argonne Forest parking lot (PC-3).

05 Aug 2012 – Carriage Hill MetroPark.  5 miles, 2 hours  “A”. Take Ohio Rt 201 (Brandt Pike) north from Dayton past I70. Turn right at 7891 East Shull Road into the Metropark. Meet at the Cedar LAKE shelter parking lot left (north) off East Shull Road.

19 Aug 2012 – Sycamore State Park.  8 miles, 3 hours  “B”. Address: 4675 North Diamond Mill Road, Trotwood, Ohio 45426.  Take Wolf Creek Pike west out of Trotwood to Diamond Mill Road. Turn right and  proceed north to Providence Road. Turn left. Follow signs to park. Meet in the parking lot near restrooms.

02 Sep 2012 – Indian Mound Park.  4-5 miles, 2 ½ hours  “C”.  Address: 2750 U.S. Rt. 42 East., Cedarville, Ohio.  Go east out of Xenia on US-42 to first park entrance, by log cabin, on north side of road.  Meet in parking lot behind cabin.

30 Sep 2012 – Brukner Nature Center.  5 miles, 2 hours  “B”. Address: 5995 Horseshoe Bend Road, Troy, Ohio 45373.  From I-75, take exit #73 and go west on SR 55 for 2.4 miles; take Horseshoe Bend Rd. to the right and proceed for another 2.1 miles to the entrance which is on the right.
