Metro Dayton Hikers HIKE SCHEDULEJun, 2013 thru Dec, 2013 All hikes start promptly at 1:30 PM unless otherwise noted, each month, on the first, third and fifth (if it exists) Sunday. The pace is BRISK: hikes may not be suitable for children or other slow walkers. Also, due to the restrictions at many of the hiking locations, members are asked not to bring pets. DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY CODES: “A” = EASY, NO HILLS “B” = MODERATE, SOME HILLS “C” = DIFFICULT, VERY HILLY IN SPOTS “D” = RUGGED, FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY June 02 Jun 2013 – The Narrows. 4-5 miles, 2 hours “C”. From US-35 just west of Xenia, go south on Factory Road to Indian Ripple Road. Entrance is opposite Factory Road. 16 Jun 2013 – Germantown MetroPark. 7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 (Germantown Road) south from Dayton. Proceed to Manning Road. Turn right (west) onto Manning Road. 30 Jun 2013 – John Bryan/Clifton Gorge. 5-6 miles, 3 hours “D”. From the north edge of Yellow Springs, go east on SR343, then south on SR370 to John Bryan State Park. 21 July 2013 – Sycamore State Park. 8 miles, 3 hours “B”. Address: 4675 North Diamond Mill Road, Trotwood, Ohio 45426. Take Wolf Creek Pike west out of Trotwood to Diamond Mill Road. Turn right and proceed north to Providence Road. Turn left. Follow signs to park. 18 August 2013 – Carriage Hill MetroPark. 5 miles, 2 hours “A”. Take Ohio Rt 201 (Brandt Pike) north from Dayton past I70. Turn right at 7891 East Shull Road into the Metropark. 29 Sep 2013 – Possum Creek Metropark. 5 miles, 2 hours “A”. From Dayton, proceed south along SR-4 (Germantown Road) to Frytown Road. Turn left (east). Proceed to park entrance at 4790 Frytown Road. Address: 5995 Horseshoe Bend Road, Troy, Ohio 45373. From I-75, take exit #73 and go west on SR 55 for 2.4 miles; take Horseshoe Bend Rd. to the right and proceed for another 2.1 miles to the entrance which is on the right. http://www.bruknernaturecenter.com/
20 Oct 2013 – Caesar Creek State Park. *****(Start at 10:00 A.M.) ***** 14 miles, 4-5 hours “B”. Take 75 or 48 or 42 north or south to SR73. Proceed east over the (long) bridge at Caesar Creek Lake. The first street on the right, after the bridge, will take you to the parking lot at the 50 Springs picnic area. Park in the first parking lot on the left at the restrooms. Take I-75 north from Dayton past I-70. Exit I75 at US40 (exit 63). Travel east on US40 to dam. Note that US40 turns right (south) onto Brown School Road, and then turns left (east) again toward the dam. Cross the dam. Use entrance 2101 US40 on the EAST side of the dam. 15 Dec 2013 – Charleston Falls Preserve. 4 miles, 1 ½ hours “B”. 2535 Ross Road. Go north on SR202 (Old Troy Pike) about a mile past US 40 to Ross Road.
