Lawyering and Ethics in Films
There are many films which relate lawyers and lawyering.  You should complete a review and critique of three films.  You should read the evaluation rubric before beginning the assignment, watch the movie at least twice and write a critique of the film as if it was a problem.  At least one film has to include a woman as a key lawyering role and one has to include a person of color as a key lawyering role.  The critique should include the following on each film

    • Introduction
    • Title, date, director, main cast list and roles
    • Summary of the plot

    • Critique of the Lawyering in each film
    • What conduct in the films either does or might violate a formal ethical rule?  What conduct appears to violate some other obligation of a lawyer? What obligation?
    • What ethical rules (Ohio state or ABA), if any govern, the potentially unethical conduct? Might the conduct result in civil liability for the lawyer or law firm?  Is there tension or conflict between competing interests or rules of conduct, and if so, in  what respect and why? Is there a difference?
    • How do you feel a lawyer should be acting in these circumstances and why? Is there a tension or conflict between what you feel a lawyer should do in this situation and what the black letter rules seems to say a lawyer must do? What practical considerations may be difficult to ignore in determining how a lawyer may behave in these circumstances.
    • What other, if any,  issues or points  you think is important to consider when addressing this problem?
    • Comparison
      • You should have a section that does a comparison of the lawyering roles in the chosen films
      • Did race and gender seem to effect the potrayal of the lawyers?
