Wed  4   Intro to the nature of the course.  Intro to the textbook:  What is Religion?  For next class read "Amazon Journey"  At the beginning of class there will be a brief quiz on this, and with other assigned readings later.  You will find this and other readings through the "Readings Portal" (see the link at the left on this page).
Fri     6 Quiz on "Amazon Journey."   Begin Ch. 1 on primitive and archaic religion. 
Mon.   9  Finish Ch. 1.  For next class do the assignment for Reading Guide #1. (Use the link at the left to Reading Guides.  On the RG page, click on  1. Genesis 1-3 & RG #1Hand in this assignment at the beginning of class.
Wed. 11 Hand in RG #1 at the beginning of class.  Begin Ch. 2.   For next class read the selection from Freud (go through the Readings Portal for this).
Fri.    13 Quiz on Freud.  Finish Ch. 2.
Mon.  16 Martin Luther King Holiday.  No classes
Wed. 18 Begin Ch. 3:  Historic Religion.  [Today is the last day to change first term grades]
Fri.    20 Continue Ch. 3.  [Today is the last day to withdraw from a course without record.]  For next class read the two sets of readings, from the Vedas and Upanishads AND from the Tao Te Ching.
Mon. 23 Quiz on the readings for today.  Finish Ch. 3.  For the next class do Reading Guide #2 assignment on the Buddha's first "sermon" at Benares.
Wed. 25 Discuss the Sermon at Benares.  Review for Exam #1 on Friday.  Discuss study techniques.
Fri.   27 Exam #1  pp. 1-67, from the Introduction to the end of Ch. 3
Mon. 30 Review Exam #1.  Begin Ch. 4.
February
Wed.  1 Finish Ch. 4.
Fri.     3 Begin Part II of the textbook:  "Salvations."  Begin Ch. 5.  For next class read "After Death."
Mon.  6 Quiz on the 4 readings about "After Death"  Discuss them.  Continue Ch. 5.
Wed.  8 Finish Ch. 5.  Begin Ch. 6.
Fri.   10 Ch. 6.  For next class read the selection called "Identity by Bobi White"
