Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), Nobel laureate for literature (1913), was one of modern India's greatest poets and thinkers, and the composer of independent India's and Bangladesh's national anthems (More on Tagore and India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka).

Special Note:  This website was originally put together by Dr. Sandeep Mitra in 1991 (while at Binghamton University, the State University of New York) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Tagore's passing.  Dr. Mitra has passionately chaperoned and nurtured this website since then, with the intent of bringing Tagore before the world.  His commitment to this goal has been unwavering.  It is our hope that his effort has connected many in India and the world to the phenomenon that was Rabindranath Tagore, and his Universalist message in the broadest sense of the word.
