Hello and welcome to my web page! My name is Dan Katona and I'm currently going into my senior year as a music education student at the University of Dayton. I was raised in Macedonia, Ohio, and attended Nordonia High School. While there, I enjoyed many opportunities to perform in a multitude of ensembles on trombone, my principal instrument. I also had the distinct privilege of traveling to Europe in the summer of 1994 with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, and performing several memorable concerts in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland during our two week stay.
I have continued to perform in a wide variety of ensembles since coming to the University of Dayton,. I've marched with the Pride of Dayton Marching Band, as well as played in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Off campus, I've had the honor of performing in both the Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductor's Association Honors Jazz Ensemble, as well as the International Jazz Educators Association/ Ohio Music Educator's Association Honors Jazz Ensemble in the past two years. I study privately with Dayton Philharmonic principal trombonist Tim Anderson, and tubist John Tabeling.
In the 1997-98 school year I served as President of the Phi Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the national men's professional music fratenity, and also as Vice President of our UD chapter of the Ohio Collegiate Music Educator's Association. I also enjoyed being drum major of the Pride of Dayton Marching Band, last year along with fellow Sinfonian Matt Scheeser. This upcoming year I'll be trying my hand at the Secretary position in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I was also thrilled to be elected to the state board of OCMEA, as State Secretary. And last but not least, I will be taking over the role of CEO of the Pride of Dayton Marching Band and running many of the off-the-field planning sessions. In 1997 I was also fortunate enough to be the recipient of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs scholarship in the amount of $1300. The award is given to only one junior or senior music education student in Ohio each year.
In my spare time (when I have any!) I like to read, play soccer and racquetball, and sometimes surf the web. I also enjoy tinkering with music composition and sequencing on my computer. As long as you're here, why not check out my link(s) at the bottom of the page, or E-mail me if you have any questions. Thanks for visiting!
