University Chorale is a 40-voice mixed ensemble which performs sacred and secular music from all eras. Recent performances include J. S. Bach's Magnificat, Franz J. Haydn's Missa St. Joannis de Deo, and Mass in Time of War, Ludwig Beethoven's Choral Fantasia, Franz Schubert's Mass in G (see sound clips below), Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata, W. A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, and a setting of Exsultate Deo, commissioned from the English composer John Gardner in 1994. Their 1997 video of Yuletide selections has been broadcast for the last two Christmases on WPTD Channel 16 in Southwestern Ohio. Last fall Chorale joined the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus to present Alexander Nevsky by Serge Prokofiev, a first-time collaboration with the Philharmonic for any UD ensemble. They were also featured at the Dayton Organist Guild annual Hymnfest in a session with Sandra Willetts from the University of Alabama. Chorale became the first UD ensemble to travel abroad this spring. The ensemble toured England, Scotland, and Paris, France. Tour performance locations included St. Giles Cathedral (Edinbough, Scotland), St. Paul's Cathedral (London, England) and Notre Dame Cathedral (Paris, France). For pictures and a description of the tour follow this link: chortour.html.

CHORALE presents a choral collage of a cappella and accompanied styles. Its repertoire ranges from Broadway medleys, to innovative 20th century works, to choral classics of all eras, to the vibrant sounds and rhythms of choral music from other cultures. With a versatile repertoire and award-winning soloists, CHORALE is capable of performing in a variety of settings. Entertainment and education are the primary programming motivations.
