FACULTY CUSTOM TEXTS AND COMPLIANCE WITH COPYRIGHT LAWS
Enriching the learning experience of students often requires providing them with copies of selected articles, book chapters and other material to supplement textbooks. This process could involve infringing U.S. Copyright Law. Inherent risks are involved when individual faculty members apply personal interpretations of either “fair use” or “educational use” of copyrighted materials in creating and/or distributing supplemental course materials.
Through the U. D. Bookstore, the University offers a "custom text publishing" service to help ensure course materials comply with the Copyright Law. Offered by Custom Academic Publishing Company (CAPCO) through the Bookstore, the service obtains copyright permissions before copies are produced. CAPCO also makes the copies available through the Bookstore as a convenience to you and your students. CAPCO services include Harvard case reviews; out-of-print books; the clearing of all copyrights; paying of all royalties; production of an easy-to-read quality-bound course pack; a simple re-order process; and on-campus distribution.
If you choose to use another copy service to produce materials for your classes, please be sure to obtain written confirmation of copyright permission(s). Unless you have written copyright permission in hand, please do not sign any agreement with the copy service that says YOU have determined that producing multiple copies of any copyrighted work meets the provisions of the Copyright Law.
It is strongly recommended that you utilize the Bookstore custom publishing service to ensure that proper copyrights are obtained. The Bookstore will need your materials at the same time that textbook adoptions are due for each term. For more information, do not hesitate to contact the Bookstore Textbook Department at X-2220.

POLICY ON MERIT SALARY INCREASES
The Department Chair will consult with the Faculty Affairs Committee to determine
rankings for submission to the Dean of the College, and the proportion of salary increase
allocated to across the board and merit salary increases respectively within the
Department. At a date to be announced, in accordance with the college calendar, all
faculty who wish to be considered for merit salary increases must submit a two-page
summary of teaching, research, and service during the prior year, as specified by the Dean
of the College. Each member of the Faculty Affairs Committee and the Chair will
independently rank music faculty members using guidelines from the Dean of the College;
the chair will average the rankings, submit rankings to the Dean, and distribute merit
salary increases proportionally among the faculty receiving merit consideration.
