Julie Swank is a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She
graduated with a degree in music education, horn emphasis. She
also holds a master of elementary education from the University of Dayton
and a Kodaly certificate from the Kodaly Center at Capital. She has taught
high school and junior high, but currently teaches K - 6 general music at
Union Elementary School in Union, Ohio. She also teaches summer workshops
and levels courses at the University of St. Thomas, Capital University, and
the University of Dayton.
Prof. Swank is the principal horn in the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra,
teaches applied horn lessons for Sinclair Community College and has a private
studio of 20 horn students. Julie serves as Past President of the Midwest
Division of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators and has presented
sessions at the OAKE National Conference in 1999, 2000
and 2003. She will keynote at the Midwest Kodaly Educators of America
conference in Chicago Fall 2003 and has presented sessions at this Divisional
Conference in 1997 and 2000.
Prof. Swank has presented chapter workshops in many cities including Omaha,
Seattle, Dayton, Toledo, Bluffton, Columbus, Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis,
Cleveland, Detroit, Harrisonburg, Lincoln and Kansas City.
She is a member of MENC and the International Horn Society and has published a book of two part folk songs entitled, “Folk for Two”. She is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Lauren, 5 and Katie, 7.
