Hello. Thank you for reading my webpage. I graduated from Wright State University with a BA in Music (Magna cum Laude) in 1990, but have been involved with early music ever since I began to play the recorder as a child, in England. Later, I took every opportunity I could to attend workshops in England, Ireland, and the United States. In the fall of 2000 I will begin working on a Master of Humanities degree at Wright State.
In the 1980s I began to study viola da gamba with Patricia Olds at the Early Music Center in Yellow Springs Ohio, and I continued these studies at Wright State University.
In 1990 I started the Wind in the Woods Early Music Ensemble which I still manage and direct. You can hear an example of our music and read more about us at http://members.aol.com/wind in wood. I play recorder and viola da gamba with this group and also with a group based at Wright State University called "Quodlibet". Besides playing with renaissance groups I also enjoy playing and performing the baroque music of Telemann, Handel, Loillet and Vivaldi.
I have been teaching the recorder for more than ten years. My present students range in age from 8 years to 70 years. Besides teaching at my home studio and at the University of Dayton I have taught recorder at the Dayton Boys' Choir Camp.
The recorder is a simple instrument to learn, but it has many initially unsuspected subtleties and is a challenge to play really well. It is a great joy to play as a solo instrument but also in ensemble with other instruments. I hope you'll consider taking lessons!
