The very nature of the saxophone makes it one of the most versatile of the wind instruments. Mr. Webb has taken full advantage of this fact. Being a versatile saxophonist has given Mr. Webb the opportunity of performing with a variety of artists. He has performed with jazz singers Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney as well as the Tommy Dorsey jazz band; rhythm and blues legends Ray Charles and The Temptations and with The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Mr. Webb has also done studio session work with Bootsie Collins and Fred Wesley. Mr. Webb was a featured guest jazz artist at the 2001 North American Saxophone Alliance Regional Conference.
In addition to free-lancing in and around the Cincinnati, Ohio area, Mr. Webb has been active in commissioning new works for the saxophone. In February of 2000 Mr. Webb, in collaboration with string quartet Cuarteto America (Venezuela), commissioned and premiered Dialogues II for string quartet and alto saxophone by Ohio based composer John Ferrito. Again in February of 2001 Mr. Webb, with Top Brass, premiered works by David Baker. A second commission, Serenade, by Mr. Webb for soprano saxophone and violin by Ohio composer, Isaac Watras, has been completed and only awaits a premiere date.
Mr. Webb maintains a jazz quintet that is devoted to performing original works by its members and works that have not made it into the repertoire by major jazz artists. The quintet also features jazz treatments of popular music of the past 40 years, from artists like the Beatles and Blondie to Sting and Elton John. Mr. Webb's quartet has been selected to be a part of the Artists on Tour educational program by the Cincinnati Arts Association.
Mr. Webb received the degrees of Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music in 1997 and the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State) in 1994.
