
Hello, my name is Matthew Smith, I am a Sophomore Music Education Major at the University of Dayton. My primary instrument is the French Horn. and I have been playing for over nine years. I currently study under Dr. Richard Chenoweth. I have played in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble for the past two years. This year I am enrolled in the Pride of Dayton Marching Band where I play mellophone. For the 2002 Marching Band season I have been selected to be one of the two Drum Majors for the Pride of Dayton Marching Band. I am also a participating member of the University of Dayton Horn Choir, The Flyer Woodwind Quintet, and the Flyer Pep Band. I have also been a member of the University of Dayton Horn Quartet.
During high school I took part in many leadership roles. I received the position of Student Conductor of the Roswell High School Orchestra for the festival season of my Junior Year; where I received a Superior rating. Between my Junior and Senior years, I attended the Florida State School of Music Summer Camp For those two weeks of Band Camp, I was the principal horn player for the "Gold Band". During my Senior I received the position of the Roswell High School Symphonic Band Student Conductor, and also received a Superior rating. I also had the position of Operations Officer (equipment manager) of both Marching Band and Symphonic Band seasons for my Junior and Senior years. During my Senior year I was also the Second Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony of Atlanta. During the course of the Youth Symphony Season, The Disney Corporation offered 30 members of our ensemble to become members of the "Disney Millennium Orchestra", which would be playing in Supberbowl XXIV in Atlanta.
