Mentors for the seminar for declared music majors, "The First-Year Experience" (ASI 150.16), help to plan and execute a series of experiences designed to introduce students to the university, to assist with their transition to university life and its demands, and to enable them to develop some of concepts and skills that are essential for their major course of studies.

Mentors are generally available to first-year students to listen to their concerns and to answer questions about the "student life" side of being a music major, even beyond their first semester.
