2003 Honors Recital: to recognize excellence in performance
Eligibility
1. Any student, first year through seniors, (including concerto winner) is eligible who has performed on a Friday-At-One Recital during the academic year prior to the date established by the Recital Committee. Recital Committee will compile a list of eligible students, a packet of programs, and nomination forms, all made available in the Music office.
2. Any
faculty member may nominate a student performer to the Recital Committee. Chamber ensembles are not
eligible.
3. The Recital Committee will use the following timeline.
a. Based on the school calendar, the Recital Committee will
establish an appropriate cut-off date for eligible performances
March 28, 2003

The Recital Committee will tabulate the two lists and merge them creating one master list of twelve.
The twelve nominees receiving the most votes will be
invited to audition before the Screening Committee.

Screening
1. The screening session will take place no less than two weeks prior to the Honors Recital. Maximum length of the screening: 2 hours. Location: Sears Recital Hall. The screening is open to music faculty, music students, and their friends. (No audience response.)
2. The student may perform a maximum of 7 minutes of music that the student would/could perform on the Honors Recital if selected.
3. The
screening committee will consist of three faculty selected by the Recital
Committee from volunteers: one
from the Recital Committee and two performance studies faculty. Adjunct faculty are eligible to
serve. At least one screening judge must not have any private
students in the screening.
4. The screening committee will select up to six performers for inclusion on the Honors Recital. This will be done by written ballot; each judge will vote for seven performers. The six performers / performances with the most votes will perform on the Honors Recital. (Ties will be dealt with at the discretion of the judges.)
Honors Recital
1. This will be held on the last Friday of the semester or on an earlier Friday if the Recital Committee finds it more appropriate in Sears Recital Hall.
2. Approximate length of recital: 40 minutes. A special program will provide names and brief performance sketches of performers and accompanists.
3. Following the recital, departmental awards will be announced. Students may pick up certificates in the Music Office. A brief reception will follow.
4. The
entire process is coordinated by the Recital Committee. The Auditioning Committee has final
authority in which auditioned performers will
appear in the Honors Recital.
