PHL 240 Research Methodologies and Technologies is a one credit-hour course, option 2 (Satisfactory or No Credit), required for the Philosophy major. The purpose of the course is to help students to conduct successful philosophical research in an academic climate of accelerating technologies, and to prepare them for post-baccalaureate professional employment.
PHL 240 is offered every year in the fall term. Philosophy majors are encouraged to take the course as soon as possible in their college careers because the research skills that are developed in this course can be put to good use in the remaining years of college and in their future careers as professionals and members of society.
The course consists of six one-hour workshops conducted jointly by the Roesch Library staff and the Chairperson of Philosophy. The first three workshops emphasize research methods and technologies that are useful independently of the student's special philosophical interests; the final three workshops are designed to give students personalized instruction in connection with one of their research projects (e.g. a term paper assigned in one of their courses).
