DOUBLE DEGREES AND DOUBLE MAJORS

Philosophy majors are encouraged to consider pursuing a second major or even a second degree.  Previous philosophy majors have completed second majors or degrees in English, biology, physics, economics, sociology, political science, religious studies, and history.

The College of Arts and Sciences allows for the following:

Double Degrees

Students may complete more than one degree program.  For example, a student may complete a B. A. and a B. S. within the College or complete a degree in one of the professional schools as well as a degree in the College.  Students must complete all of the work required for both degrees as determined by the faculty in the college or school in which the degree is offered.  Consult with appropriate Dean’s offices for specific information.
Two diplomas are awarded in the case of double degrees.

Double Majors

Students may complete more than one major.  For example, a student may complete a B.A. in a humanities discipline and a second major in one of the sciences.  Students wishing to double major must complete all requirements for the degree as set out in the first major.  In addition, the requirements for the major in the second discipline must be completed.  One diploma is awarded in the case of double majors.  This option is particularly helpful for students who want to add a second major in a language.
