- I am attending the Notre Dame Law School. Career prospects are the best of any law school outside the top 15 or so schools. Students here place well in all areas of the country, which is rare for a school outside the top 14. Faculty is very focused on teaching, and is extremely accessible to students. The writing program is also among the best in the country, and as any law student knows, the ability to write well is the most important skill in law.
- I chose Notre Dame Law School for a variety of different reasons: Atmosphere- There is more dialogue, collaboration, and community. Internal competition is minimized by students' desires to practice in completely different areas of the country. The likelihood that students will compete for the same positions in the same firms, geographic areas, and areas of specialization is, therefore, remote; Religious Affiliation- The Catholic identity of the law school is not idle pretense but a strong tradition upheld by faculty and students alike. While religious denomination does not enter into admissions decisions, over 80% of the law school's students are Catholic; Private Affiliation- As an independent law school, Notre Dame does not lie at the mercy of a state-controlled university system and the politics of state government; Political Environment- Notre Dame tends to be more conservative than many other law schools; Faculty-The faculty is ranked fourth in the country by "Princeton Review"; Reputation- The editors of "Princeton Review" have commented that Notre Dame’s "sheer academic strength is undeniable". Notre Dame also has the strongest reputation abroad; Student satisfaction- in conversations with several law school alumni, I was struck by the degree to which they praised the law school and their satisfaction with their decision to enroll. The current law students with whom I spoke all praised their enrollment decision and expressed satisfaction with the curriculum, faculty, student community, and opportunities upon graduation; Vision-The law school has a vision for its future designed not only to secure its place in the top tier, but to propel it to a leadership position among law schools. This vision includes the attainment of a student-faculty ratio of less than 17:1, doubling the size of the clinical faculty, aid available to students... This vision gives me great confidence that the strength of a law degree from this university will be even stronger in three years than it is today.
