On October 5th,
2007, the senior MS-IV Cadets embarked on a journey to Washington D.C.
and some areas of
Northern Virginia. The Seniors that participated on
this Staff Ride are as follows; Lisa Acton, James Brooks, Rafael Echevarria, Chris Esquivel, Ben Franzosa Everett Gilmore, Jackie
Giulitto, Adam Korte, Mike Langlais, Ahren Lavallee, John McCormack,
Keaton Troy; along with the cadre members, LTC Charles Schretzman and
MSG Victor Fleek. These seniors and Cadre members were able to
experience the many historical monuments that our nation’s capital
produces, from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument, as well
as all the War Memorials. Another trip taken by the Fighting Flyers was
to Manassas, VA, where they learned about the Battle of Manassas/Bull
Run, in which both large Union and Confederate armies faced off. They
were also very fortunate to visit one of LTC Schretzman’s long-time
friend, LTC Gadson, who was injured during his tour in Afghanistan less
than a year ago. LTC Gadson, who during his time of physical therapy
and recuperation at the Walter Reed Hospital, also aids other wounded
soldiers coming into the hospital and was able to bring in the Cadets
and Cadre, and allow them to experience this side of war not a lot of
people get to see. Throughout the weekend a few bold Flyers, Chris
Esquivel, Ahren Lavallee, Everett Gilmore, Keaton Troy, John McCormack,
and LTC Schretzman, participated in running the Army Ten-Miler which ran
from the Pentagon through Washington D.C. Finally, they were given a
tour of the Pentagon by a parent of a former U.D. Army R.O.T.C. alumnus,
Mrs. Wall, Nick and Tim’s mother, as well as take part in participating
in the Army United States Association Convention held annually in the
capital.
