Atkinson comes to the University of Dayton as a Military Police
Officer from 324th MP Company, Ohio Army National Guard (OHARNG)
in Middletown, OH with 14 years of Military Service. While
assigned to 324th MP Company he served initially as a platoon
leader from December 2007 thru October 2008 when he moved to his
most recent assignment as the 324th MP Company Commander.
Simultaneously his full time career was also associated with the
National Guard as the S-3 Training Officer with the 437th MP
Battalion responsible for training development and training
resourcing for the subordinate companies across the state of
Ohio.
He initially entered military service in March of 1996 when he
enlisted as a 31B Military Police Officer in the Ohio Army
National Guard. After completion of basic training and advanced
individual training at Fort Leonardwood, MO, he returned to the
OHARNG and served in a variety of enlisted and leadership
positions as a Soldier and Non-Commissioned Officer at the 324th
MP Co, Middletown, OH. In December 2005 he received a direct
commission to Second Lieutenant in the Military Police. After
his professional training he assumed duties as a platoon leader
in the 323rd MP Company in Toledo before returning to
Middletown.
His military schooling includes: Basic and Advanced Individual
Training: 31B, Primary Leadership Development Course and he is
certified as a Military Defensive Driving Course (DDC) level 4
Instructor. He has also attended SAIROC (Small Arms Instructor
Range Operations Course), TAITC (Total Army Instructor Training
Course), MPOBC (Military Police Officer’s Basic Course), CLPCC
Phase I (Platoon Leader Readiness Course), INIWIC (Inter-service
Nonlethal Individual Weapons Instructor Course), and CLPCC Phase
II (Company Commander’s Readiness Course)
His Awards and decorations include: The Army Commendation medal,
The Army Achievement Medal (4 awards), Army Reserve Component
Achievement medal (2 awards), Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M
Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Reserve
Components Overseas Training Ribbon (2 awards), Joint
Meritorious Unit Award, and the German Armed Forces Badge for
Military Proficiency. State Military Awards include: Ohio
Commendation Medal, Ohio Award of Merit and Ohio Faithful
Service Ribbon
1LT Atkinson is a lifelong resident of Miamisburg, OH. He holds
a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Otterbein College. He is
married to Heather and they have two boys Gavinn and Mason.
