Our mission at The University of Dayton Army ROTC program is to educate, develop, inspire and commission the highest quality leaders who are committed to the Army Values, defense of the country, and service to our nation. Cadets enter as civilians the beginning of their freshman year and upon graduation will exit the program with confidence and the leadership skills that are necessary to be a successful officer in the United States Army. As an incoming first year student, you will be required to attend physical training sessions that are held three times a week and are designed to challenge Cadets to push themselves above their physical limits. Thursday morning Cadets attend Leadership Labs on the range in O'Reilly Hall. These labs teach and train Cadets various skills that are applied during a mock deployment field training exercise that is held at the end of every semester. Military Science classes are held once a week for the first year. During these classes you will learn a basic foundation of Army knowledge and skills in areas such as marksmanship, rappelling, land navigation, the structure of the Army. After completing your first year, you return as an MS II and are expected to fill the role of a team leader in your squad. At the end of the year your class will be ranked and special summer training slots will be offered to those at the top. There are many different Army schools you my get the chance to attend, but the most popular are Airborne, Air Assault, and Robin Sage. When you return to school as an MS III you fill the positions of the entire company chain of command. This is the most demanding year for you as a Cadet as training intensifies in order to guarantee your success at the Leadership Development Assessment Course that every Cadet must attend the summer between your junior and senior years. As an MS IV you will fill the positions of the battalion staff and will be in charge of planning and executing operations that will train the younger Cadets, as you were trained as a younger Cadet. While you may find similar qualities in other ROTC programs, none of them are comparable to the program at UD. The Cadets here are a second family to one another and long lasting friendships are established every year. Cadets are respected on campus and expected to hold themselves to the high standards that have been set for them by the previous classes before them. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage; these are the characteristics that define our program and inspire our Cadets to be the immaculate Cadets who transition into the officers who lead the way in the Army.
