DOC I-06-06
PROPOSAL TO THE ACADEMIC SENATE
TITLE: Final Honors Category
SUBMITTED BY: Academic Policies Committee of the Academic Senate
DATE: April 21, 2006
ACTION: Legislative
Background
While reviewing issues surrounding August graduates who are allowed to participate in the May ceremonies, the APCAS also reviewed current policies on honors designations. Honors designations noted in the May Graduation Program are determined by student gpa’s at the end of fall term. If the academic performance in the winter term moves a student into a higher honors category, a notation is made on his or her transcript and permanent record, and an appropriate honors key is awarded. However, poorer academic performance moving a student into a lower category is not noted on official transcripts or permanent records.
Proposal
The APCAS approved the following revision in the policy on determination of final honors category:
” If a student qualifies for honors or moves into a higher DIFFERENT
category of honors on the basis of his or her academic degree program
grade-point average, the diploma issued will note the higher APPROPRIATE
honor category, notation will be made on the transcript and permanent record,
and an appropriate honors key will be awarded. Due to time constraints no
adjustments/corrections can be made to the actual printed graduation
program.”
