Minutes of the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate

April 19, 2007

Present: D. Biers (presiding), D. Courte, G. DeMarco, P. Johnson, M. Lofton, W. Luckett, J. O’Gorman, R. Penno, F. Pestello, R. Wells

Roll Call:

Ten of the twelve members of the Committee were present.

Prayer and Welcome:

D. Biers opened the meeting with the highlander’s prayer.

Approval of Minutes:

April 12, 2007 were approved with minor corrections.

D. Biers offered his thanks to the Committee for the work of the year. He especially thanked those who are going off the Executive Committee: Dale Courte, Bob Penno, George DeMarco, Wade Luckett, and Michael Lofton. He thanked Jim Farrelly for representing the Faculty Board this year and Pat Johnson for her work as Secretary. The Committee extended its thanks to Dave Biers for the work he has contributed as President of the Academic Senate.

New Business:

• The Committee reviewed requests for membership on the standing committees for the 2007-2008 academic year. Preliminary assignments were made. These are subject to approval at the first meeting of the 2007-2008 Academic Senate.
• F. Pestello reviewed the process for electing members to the Executive Committee for the 2007-2008 academic year. Two ballots will be used to determine each representative. After all representatives have been elected, a president, vice-president, and secretary of the Academic Senate will be elected in that order.

Old Business:

• W. Luckett requested information about student representation on the Calendar Committee. He was advised to contact the Registrar, T. Westendorf to discuss the issue.

• Because of time constraints, J. O’Gorman was not able to present a report on the status of work on University committees.
