Minutes: FACAS Meeting, 2/07/08

Time and Location: 10:30 – 11:45 am, KL 505

Absent: E. Gustafson, C. Letavec

1. Minutes of 1/31/08 were approved as corrected.

2. A report to the Academic Senate for 2/08/08 was discussed and finalized.

3. Documents showing the teaching evaluation part of the P&T policy of the Schools of Business, Education and Engineering, along with the Department of Music were distributed.

4. The post-tenure review philosophy was revised by Becky Wells and distributed.

5. Discussion returned to the requirement that evidence of student learning should be part of teaching evaluation. It was suggested that student learning is program-based, rather than faculty-based. We might change the wording to something that states that the instructor show that the course is focused on student learning, e.g. a statement in the syllabus itemizing learning outcomes.

6. The next meeting is scheduled for 10:30 am on Thursday, February 14, 2008 in KL 505.
