Minutes: FACAS Meeting, 2/28/08

1. Minutes of 2/21/08 were approved as amended
2. A review of the maternity leave policy at UD has been assigned to the FAC. Lisa Rismiller has volunteered to conduct a survey of faculty and staff to determine issues that have surfaced since the policy has put in place. We will likely ask Lisa Rismiller and Joe Untener to attend a FAC meeting to review issues that have arisen with the maternity leave policy to better determine the focus of Lisa’s survey. Pat Johnson will act as a liaison between Lisa and the FAC. Sheila Hughes and Beth Schwartz wrote the original maternity leave report some years ago. Pat Johnson will find that report and also the policy passed by the Academic Senate. She will get copies to the FAC members.
3. Some minor editing was done to the Teaching Evaluation for Purposes of Tenure document. George Doyle will quickly implement the changes and email it to FAC members for final electronic approval.
4. The FAC will request that the ECAS put the Teaching Evaluation for Purposes of Tenure on the March 7 Academic Senate meeting agenda.
5. A policy for Teaching Evaluation for Promotion and Merit will have to wait until a post-tenure review policy has been adopted.
6. The next meeting of the FAC will be Thursday, March 13, 2008 in KL 505.
