1. Minutes of 4/3/08 were approved as corrected.

2. Post-tenure Review document – Rebecca Wells will present the PTR document at the Senate meeting on 4/11/08.  She will mention that there has been some change in emphasis since presented to the Senate in Oct 2007.  The Senate will be asked to adopt the philosophy of a post-tenure review and support a request to the Provost to have present review procedures (sabbatical, annual review, and promotion) audited.  The results of the audit will be submitted to the FAC.  The FAC will then formulate a post-tenure review policy using the present review policies as a basis.

3. Teaching Evaluation document – George Doyle will present the Teaching Evaluation for Tenure document at the Senate meeting on 4/11/08.  The FAC thought that the statement “Faculty-provided evidence of student achievement of learning objectives” was the most contentious recommendation in the document.  Faculty may object to it philosophically, practically, or the types of evidence suggested.  Since the FAC would like to get the document passed, it may be necessary to remove the statement.

Upon moving the document to the floor, it will be mentioned that the implementation date will be determined by the University P&T Committee.

If passed by the Senate, the document will have to go to all departments/units for inclusion in their P&T document.

4. Maternity Leave – Lisa Rismiller’s questionnaire on maternity leave was again discussed.  One item of concern was the conflict between “fair” and “consistent.”  The FAC thought it was better that the policy be fair as opposed to consistent.  Consistency removes flexibility, which is desirable.

The FAC thought that it had reviewed the questionnaire adequately.  Lisa will make a few more revisions and have it reviewed by Sheila Hughes, Brenda Donnelly, Joe Untener, and HR before submitting it to the faculty.

It was agreed that the questionnaire would be sent to the faculty from the FAC of the Senate under the name of the President of the Senate.

5.  The next meeting of the FAC will be Thursday, April 17, 2008 in KL 505.
