1. The minutes of 5/24/07 were approved.
2. A letter written to the deans asking them to encourage their faculty to attend open meetings on the Tenure and Promotion Policy document scheduled for September 11 and 12 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in KU 222 was edited. The letter will be sent to the deans ASAP. The letter also asks the deans to encourage voting on the policy.
3. Carolyn Roecker-Phelps has a power point presentation on the Promotion and Tenure document that the faculty will vote on shortly. George Doyle will ask her if the FAC can use it at our open meetings for the faculty to address questions that may arise. A laptop/projector will be ordered for the room, KU 222.
4. Dave Biers/Executive Committee will remind the Provost office to publicize the voting and to send out ballots to faculty on the Promotion and Tenure document.
5. Dave Biers distributed a letter he had received from Allen Hill, Former Chair, Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees. The letter mentioned that the Committee was very pleased with the Promotion and Tenure document passed by the Academic Senate. They encourage the senate to proceed with the Post-tenure Review Policy. Mr. Hill indicated that the Post-tenure Review Policy “should not be punitive in nature, but rather developmental.”
Once the Post-tenure Review Policy is in place “the Board can move from an approval body to one of oversight with regard to faculty promotion, tenure, and evaluation processes.”
6. The FAC will begin the process of formulating the Post-tenure Review Policy by looking at the philosophy of the policy. It will review the following documents.
a. “Post-tenure Review Report and Recommendations” , 10/16/06, Pat Meyer’s Committee
