MINUTES OF THE FACULTY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE September 20, 2000 1:00 p.m. Jesse Phillips 470 Presiding: George Miner Present: Conniff, Korte, Youngkin, Miner, Hary, Palermo, Lasley, Cherrington, Gerla, Conte, Yungblut 1. Dr. Miner chaired the meeting in Dr. Pestello’s absence. 2. I-98-11: The committee discussed the proposed wording for a proposal for I-98-11, Lecturer Representation on the Senate. The proposed wording, developed by Dr. Pestello was written to parallel the wording for representation of the Part-time Faculty. The wording for the issue was: The Full-time Non-Tenure-Track Instructional Staff shall elect a representative in an election held each Fall term. The term of the office shall be for one year. The term shall begin at the first Senate meeting of the Winter term. Dr. Youngkin moved and Professor Gerla seconded that the proposed wording be approved as distributed. The committee passed the proposed constitutional revision. The vote was 8 favoring the proposed amendment, no one opposed the proposed amendment. In the discussion, the committee noted that a campus-wide definition for "instructional staff" needs to be developed. 3. Committee members received the Evaluation of Administrators in Service areas document. The procedures for evaluation of administrators in each area will be evaluated at a future meeting. 4. The committee had a brief discussion of the Faculty Workload Guidelines. The committee agreed to send a communication to each of the schools and the College to seek feedback and suitability of the guidelines. 5. The committee adjourned at 2:00 P. M. 6. The next meeting of the Faculty Affairs Committee will be on October 4th at 1P.M. in Jesse Phillips 470. |
