Minutes:  FACAS Meeting,   10/4/07

 

Time and Location:  10:30 – 11:45 am, KL 505

 

Present:  D. Biers, G. Doyle (chair), E. Gustafson, P. Johnson, T. Lasley, L. Laubach,  L. Snyder, R. Wells

 

Absent:  Y. Raffoul, D. Sink, C. Letavec

 

1.  The minutes from 9/27/07 were approved.

 

2. Draft 4 of 10/1/07 was edited.  The following ideas were discussed.

 

  1. After quite of bit of discussion, we settled on the title of the policy.

Review of Tenured Faculty:

The Peer Consultation Component

 

  1. Must include both past performance and future goals while considering department, unit and university objectives and necessary resources.  While review of past performance is important, the main emphasis should be on consultation associated with future efforts.
  2. There was some discussion over the words formative and summative (in the literature) versus developmental and evaluative (in common use).  Both sets of words appear in the policy, and will be used.
  3. The FAC wordsmithed the first section of the policy, which states the philosophy that it is working toward.
  4. The second section, containing the details, will be considered later.

 

  1. Dave Biers will consult with the ECAS as to the possibility of showing the Board of Trustees section 1 of the post-tenure consultation document.

 

  1. George Doyle will contact and ask Joe Untener and Pat Palermo to read section 1 of the policy, commenting on the overall approach to make sure we haven’t missed something that is important.

 

5. The next meeting will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 25, 2007 in KL 505.
